Tonight we paint!

Posted on July 22, 2015 by Erika Scott

paintingnight(1)We’ve been in a rut lately, the kids and I haven’t really done anything creatively fun together. So I decided that we’d break out the paint, it’s been sitting under the kitchen sink for far too long. I love watching the kids get creative, it’s interesting to see the differences in their personalities. When I watch them paint I can see the joy in their faces, because they have the freedom to paint whatever they want. It’s a blank canvas they end up putting a tiny bit of their soul on paper, no two paintings are ever the same. K & Z have painting before, it’s not a new concept to them, but they love doing it just the same. This is the first time Em has ever painted, and watching her put paint from her paint brush to her paper for the first time was priceless.IMG_1727(1)Z painted the top two pictures, I asked him to describe what the left painting was to him. He said it’s a man on a skateboard; the grey thing is a scooter, the green is grass and the blue is rain. He says the painting on the right is a fire-breathing dragon, I see a person walking. What do you see? K wasn’t such a mystery her paintings are the bottom two. She described the left painting as some flowers, some bushes, a sun, a smiley face and some grass. The right side she said to me “Don’t you notice? It’s crosses. The black is death”… my six-year-old is DEEP is all I have to say.Em&Ipainting(1)Em’s painting is on the left it’s beautiful I love her first painting, and as childish as it seems mine is on the right. I felt it was only fitting to paint with the kids, sometimes I find it more entertaining to participate; than it is to observe. I know I won’t become a professional painter anytime soon. LOL. The most important thing is that we all had fun doing something together, and if that requires me to display my beginner painting skills so be it. 😛

What’s something fun you did with your kid(s) lately? Have you ever had a “Painting Night” with them?
