Calgary Stampede 2014

Posted on July 7, 2014 by Erika Scott

Sunday morning we woke up and went to a pancake breakfast at one of the churches here in the city. It’s been awhile since I had pancakes, and they were delicious! They also served strawberries, and the round sausages. Let’s not forget the juice. Mmmm!! Just thinking about it makes my mouth water again. Haha. We got some tickets for the stampede a couple of days ago, and kids under 6 are free so we decided we’d make a day of it and go. I managed to burn myself pretty bad on Canada Day, and I was still feeling the burn pretty bad so I made sure I put on some extra sunscreen. It was a very sunny hot day, so again we took the C-train down to the Stampede grounds, it was pretty busy since I believe it was Family Day. This was another first for me, since I’ve never been to the Calgary Stampede before. All the people and line ups, not to mention all the food trucks. (Cue the mouth watering.) If you haven’t already notice I’m a foodie, I love food. We walked around with the kids (honestly I don’t even think we went to the adult ride area.) We seen all the kid rides, so we went to get some ride tickets for the kids so they could go on some rides. Something I learnt this year is if we do go back next year, it’s worth getting the express pass. If we didn’t have all 3 kids with us perhaps it would have been different, but the line ups were ridiculous. To add to it we have Keera who isn’t very into the rides that go “high up”, and Zaden loves to go on them. The only one they agreed they both wanted to go on was the Carousel.caraKeera After some rides we went and got some yogurt “ice cream” raspberry flavor sooo good, and some barrel rootbeer. For 2$ you get a refill on your big souvenir cup. Not a bad price considering we all like rootbeer, and it was delightful in the heat, it even came with ice. Haha… the simple luxuries in life. After we went and got one of my guilty pleasures, a jumbo hot dog with cheese, fried onions and ketchup. If reading that doesn’t make you want a hot dog you aren’t a hot dog lover. 🙂
