The girls and I went for some ice cream after supper, but not surprisingly that wasn’t enough adventure for them. Keera didn’t want to head home just yet and I can’t blame her, neither did I. Sometimes you just want to get out and do stuff, but since we were limited on the time it being a school night and all. I told her we’d go do something around our area. Conveniently placed there is a pet store just across the parking lot from the ice cream place. She told me she wanted to go see the puppies at the pet-store. I love going to see puppies as much as the next dog lover, but my heart breaks every time. The kids always ask for a dog and I know I want one too, it’s been more than a couple of years since my Newfie passed away. However like everything in life there is a time and a place, and right now there is no place for a dog. We live in a rental and our landlord has specifically told us that we are NOT allowed to get any pet. The kids don’t understand why we can’t, but I know we will get a dog(s) eventually…it’s just going to be later than we all want it to be. So I crossed my fingers as we crossed over to the other side of the parking lot, hoping that the store would be closed.
Woohoo, they decided to close early tonight! Keera looked so disappointed, so I suggested we’d head over to Michaels the craft store. It’s a place I usually avoid like the plague, especially with the kids. My reason is mostly because I would probably be able to drop more than a couple of hundred dollars there without batting an eyelash if I had the extra cash. The kids match my enthusiasm when we enter the doors, looking at all the cool craft stuff and the carefully placed junk near the front of the store. I never promised them we would get anything, but my mom brain remembered Keera needed a poster board for a school project. So that was my mission to find a white poster board for her school project, silly me I never learn. The Michaels staff cleverly placed the poster paper right beside the markers, crayons and paint. It makes sense and I get it, but once my kids seen the paint I knew immediately we wouldn’t be leaving with just the poster board. It didn’t take all that much convincing on Keera’s part either, it wasn’t just paint it was sparkly paint I’m a sucker for sparkly paint. One of the store employees came to tell us we had five minutes till the store was closing, and that we had to head to the front of the store. Thank goodness because by the time we did get to the till we had already about 20 dollars of paint and poster paper. Once we got home I grabbed an old table-cloth from one of the girl’s birthday parties, I put it on the table to protect it. Can’t you tell that my adulting is getting better? I’m not great at painting but I find it super fun and very relaxing. The kids love to paint too which is great because it’s an easy activity to set up and put away.
What’s something fun you do with your kid(s)? Do you ever walk into a store with the intention to buy one thing, and end up leaving with more than you planned?
