Escaping the city for a day.

Posted on January 10, 2016 by Erika Scott

atdaltonshouse(1)It’s no secret I’ve been itching to get out of Calgary for a while now, I really just wanted to just get away. Take a road trip somewhere, I’ve been stuck in this city for too long it’s getting to me. Even though it was only for the night, and a little more than half a day. We headed out toward the Edmonton area it’s about a three-hour drive from Calgary, we usually try to gas up at the half-way point in Red Deer {Gasoline alley}. The plan was once we got to our destination we’d go somewhere to eat, and then we’d head over to the kids dad’s house. Our plan was to spend the night, then just hang out on Sunday. It made for a nice change in the kids weekend routine, and our ride up was pretty mellow; the kids slept most of the trip.

I really try to make an effort to bring the kids up here as much as I can, which can get pretty difficult with everything we’ve got going on in our lives. The kids are in school, I’ve got my work schedule, we’ve got doctors appointments, etc. We left Calgary on Saturday night, and ended up getting to his house around 9:30pm I believe. We headed there just after we finished eating, and I was so exhausted that I ended up falling asleep for a little bit once we got there. Oops I’m a partypooper and I don’t even feel guilty.

The kids played with all of the toys that they have there for a bit, and then their dad made them a bed on the living room floor. Keera and Zaden are obsessed with the idea of  “camping out” in the living room, it’s almost like a treat for them. I don’t really let them do it at home, and their grandpa let’s them do it at his house all the time. Sunday morning came and after we had breakfast, the kids managed to convince their dad to let them watch “Inside Out” on his Ipad. It was a short-low-key get away, but it was nice to get out of Calgary {and our house} for a little bit. Even though we weren’t gone for that long, I missed home. You really don’t know how much you miss your home, until you finally get home yes even from a short over-night/day trip.

Do you and your family ever go somewhere to get away just for a day or two?
