“Follow the yellow brick road”, today the kids and I came across the words “Free Play Box This Way” written on the cement in front of VIVO. There’s really nothing like an adventure, to who knows where.
Than again…
Since I’m a paranoid parent, following stuff like this usually gives me the heebie-jeebies. Despite the legitimate look of it, I told the kids we could possibly go after going to the library.
After-all that was the entire point of heading to VIVO, so the kids and I could exchange some library books and movies. That’s how I usually experience my adventures, by reading a good book or watching an interesting movie.
Usually once we get into the library, it’s difficult to get the kids to leave. Not today, they selected their books, and movies quickly. I told them they could go play in the kid area, while I checked out all the new books, and movies.
I even spoke to one of the librarians, the librarian explained it was VIVO employees who setup the chalk path. The arrows and shoe prints, are supposed to add a little fun to summer.
Once you get to the end of the path, there’s supposed to be a fun activity. This gave me peace of mind, and of course the fact that it was still daylight played a factor in my decision. I told the kids we could follow the path.Fueled with excitement at what “cool” thing, could be at the end of the path. The kids jumped from shoe print, to shoe print. I was less thrilled, and more just curious. Still I hushed my inner party-pooper mom, and followed along.
The path led around, and to the side of the building. With plenty of daylight left, the kids and I got to the end of the path… There in the dark, in a closed off section was a creepy looking toy box filled with toys. The whole situation appeared sketchy, reminding me of a scene off Criminal Minds.
This adventure quickly turned into disappointment, especially considering it was VIVO that set it up. I bit my tongue, and waited to see what the kids would say.
Keera, Zaden, and Emilee didn’t want to go anywhere near the toy box. They told me they just wanted to go home, so to soften the disappointment. I suggested we go get a Booster Juice first, then we could walk by the pond on the way home. The kids and I love walking around the pond, it’s a beautiful peaceful place to go. Whether you’re looking to sit and watch nature (mostly mama ducks, and their ducklings), or adventure out and get some exercise in.
It’s the place to be.
In the early evenings, especially in the summer time the pond is a busy place. There are tons of people coming out, to run/walk/jog/bike, etc around the pond. And who could blame them, look at that view!
