Welcome to the first day of 2017, Happy New Year! I hope all of you had a great New Years Eve, and that you got to ring in the New Year with people you love. I personally got to ring in the New Year, with three of the best little people I know my kids 🙂I was doing some last-minute grocery grabbing earlier on New Years Eve, I didn’t have the Bigs back yet and my mom offered to watch Emilee while I grabbed some New Years “essentials”. I always try to do something special with the kids to ring in the New Year. Every year we usually order pizza, then at midnight we have a toast with some pop. This year I wanted to do something different, so I googled how to make Shirley Temples.
I needed some red grenadine, Sprite or Ginger Ale, some orange juice and cherries. Of course we needed some special plastic cups, to toast with for the New Year. Instead of ordering pizza this year (which has been our tradition every New Year), I decided to buy an oven pizza for supper. Then I had a couple of other odds and ends to purchase, such as mini chocolate cupcakes. My experience in this is don’t wait until a holiday comes up, before you go searching for red grenadine… Because chances are they are all sold out. We had to go to three different stores, before we finally found some. I opted for Sprite in a 2L bottle, and Ginger Ale in cans since I know we like to drink Ginger Ale even when it’s not a holiday. I made the decision to buy Minute Maid orange juice in the cans, because I know we aren’t big juice drinkers and we probably won’t drink all the juice right away.Once we got back home, the Bigs got dropped off at home too. I preheated the oven, and once it was ready put the pizza in. Once we finished eating supper, the kids got into their pyjamas and we picked out a movie on Netflix. About halfway through the movie, I made the kids some popcorn and we watched until 11pm. At 11 I asked the kids if they wanted a cupcake, and they all replied they were too full. Fine… More for me lol. We turned on another movie, and watched until it was 11:50pm.I made my first attempt at Shirley Temples, in their fancy glasses adding a cherry to the bottom of the cup and everything. The kids drank it down faster than I could say wait! So with five minutes left to midnight, I made everyone a new Shirley Temple. This time I made sure to not hand it to them right away, and at midnight we toasted together with Shirley Temples. Zaden gulped his drink down, while I managed to get a recording of us saying “Happy New Years!”I got the kids to put their cups beside the kitchen sink, and I sent them off to my room. After quickly washing the tables, and counters I turned off the lights then headed to my room. I turned on another movie on Netflix, and not even fifteen minutes later Emilee was completely asleep. Which didn’t surprise me in the slightest, considering it was after midnight lol.Zaden and Keera managed to make it halfway through the movie, before they ended up falling asleep. Then I did the magical act of carrying them each to their own beds, let me tell you it’s not as easy carrying them to bed as it used to be lol! I ended up doing some dishes, and then ended up heading to bed myself. Overall it was a pretty low-key New Years, which seems to be the way it’s been since I became a parent… and I wouldn’t want it any other way.
–Also I may or may not have eaten, four of the mini cupcakes out of six by myself.
