It’s become a Christmas tradition that when we wake up on Christmas morning, the kids get dressed and all the adults shower. Then we make ourselves a cup of coffee before we open gifts, it’s a way more relaxing way to start off the festivities. I think this Christmas morning routine is great it gives the adults some time to wake up, and it also teaches the kids patience. Once everyone’s ready to get started on opening the gifts, the first thing I do is get the kids to take a picture in front of the Christmas tree, because I’m that mom.Keera always opens up her birthday gifts first, because I want her birthday to feel important just like Zaden and Emilee. CLICK HERE if you want to see Keera’s birthday this year. I don’t want her to feel like her birthday is not important, so her birthday gifts are first then we do the stockings from Santa. This year the kids used the stockings that me, and my siblings grew up using when we went to our grandparents house for Christmas. Santa brought each of the kids a toothbrush, Keera and Zaden got an electric themed one while Em got just a regular themed one. They all got some Dory toothpaste, some skittles, different colored play dough, a booster juice gift card, and a Dairy Queen gift card in their stockings. I’m tired of having junk around the house, so the plan this year was to buy the kids stuff they’ll actually use. Of course I’m not a complete Grinch, they are kids after-all so they did get some toys just not as many as previous years. They each got a calendar, Minions for Zaden, Cats for Keera, and Finding Dory for Emilee. This Christmas I went completely against my rule of no Lego in the house, and I bought Keera and Zaden each their own Lego set. If I could turn back time, I would buy them each just regular Lego. Some parenting advice for any parents reading this, if you are looking to buy your kids Lego. Buy them regular Lego, and not a the themed one. That way they can always build the Lego into different stuff, and take it apart and start again. With the themed set Logos once it’s build it’s usually left that way, or the kids end up building it and then taking it apart and losing the pieces… You know what’s frustrating about kids losing a themed Lego piece, then the rest of the set is completely useless. With regular Lego if a piece goes missing, it doesn’t affect them being able to build other things no big deal there’s more to choose from. I’m sure you can buy characters separately too, all of these things seem like common sense but I didn’t think of it at the time.
After we finished opening the gifts, we hung out for a bit while the kids played with their stuff. Then we decided to bring the kids to a movie, I know it sounds silly but I didn’t even know the movie theater was opened on Christmas day. I guess not everyone celebrates Christmas, so it kind of makes sense to keep it opened. We took the kids down the street to the local theater, and spent the afternoon with munchies watching from recliner seats. 🙂 I love being able to get family pictures with the kids, it’s too bad that the lighting wasn’t great on my face. However their all smiling, so I’ll take it.
We went to see the movie SING, it turned out to be a pretty good movie. I was worried there would be a lot of singing, and no story line but the movie actually had a really good plot. It’s definitely a must see movie, especially with your kid(s).
