It’s been three days since I had my tonsillectomy, and I’m still pretty hopped up on painkillers. [I’ll be posting another blog post in a couple of weeks, all about how my recovery journey is going/went.] My mom’s been a super big help, she’s been keeping an eye on the kids while I’ve been around. I’m still doing stuff but I’m doing a lot more sitting on the couch in pain, sounds wonderful right?. To everyone’s amazement, I also have no desire to speak. It hurts way more than it’s worth, which is killing me because I’m a chatter box. I’ve been cleared to have food as of today when I feel up to it…but I’m still not able to swallow any food. Not that I’ve got an appetite for anything, I’m still having to force myself to just swallow water. My surgeon suggested that I have big frequent gulps, every time I feel my throat beginning to dry. So when my mom suggested we take the kids to the splash park, I admit I wasn’t really keen on the idea. Despite how I feel I knew the kids were getting bored, and it was too hot out to sit in our apartment. I sucked it up and agreed to tag along, my bigs got themselves ready to go by putting on their swimming suits. I got Emilee in her swimming suit with a swimmer, along with some towels that I shoved in my gym [don’t laugh!!] bag. Once I grabbed a couple of bottles of water we headed out. On our way we noticed that a townhouse not far from our place is up for sale. We noticed they were having an open house, so we popped in to get an idea of what the layout looks like. It’s a decent size with three bedrooms upstairs, two and a half bathrooms (one master and the other a Jack and Jill type upstairs, then a powder room on the main level), a kitchen connected to the dining room/living room and finally an unfinished but insulated basement. The downfall is there’s not really a backyard, only a small deck, also you can’t have a fire pit in the back. Granted it would be a pretty nice starter home, the condo board takes care of the lawn maintenance year round. The price wasn’t that bad either (considering our area of the city).Once we got to the splash park, I noticed how packed it was. There wasn’t many choices of spots to sit, all the shade was taken. Even though I was slightly grouchy from being in pain, I’ll admit it felt wonderful to feel the sun on my skin. Keera, Zaden and Emilee weren’t shy and headed straight for the water. I got a couple of towels laid out for us to sit on, and sat down. The kids ran back and forth from the towel to the water, over and over again excited and drenched head to toe. It was nice to watch them having so much fun, and blowing off all of their build up energy. They started to play with the other kids, and Keera even ended up seeing someone from school. We spent the whole afternoon there and only ended up leaving sometime after 6. Zaden and Emilee ended up falling asleep in the van, which is a blessing. Once we got home, we gave the kids a quick supper and bath. Followed by shuffling them off to bed, they were totally played out. The best “put your kids to bed” advice I can give, is getting them to run outside in the fresh air!
What do you and your family do for fun when it’s hot out?
