Today we celebrated Zaden’s sixth birthday, and I learnt a lot about hosting a birthday party. I’ve never hosted a birthday party, at a location other than our house…with people other than family.
I thought it would be simple, and stress-free after all it was going to be hosted at another location. No cleanup required on my part, right?
Finding a location to book, is the easiest part. Deciding on the cake theme, this year was easy as well. Heck even the invitations are easy. Honestly the most stressful party, of hosting a party (that I’ve noticed so far.) Is the stress that no-ones going to RSVP, or show up.It worries me the possibility of no one showing up, and my kids being disappointed. Zaden’s birthday is the middle of June, so it’s not that bad. However the kids are still in school, and some parents don’t want to deal with parties so close to summer.
Then on another note there’s the sibling fairness, since Zaden had a party Keera’s got to have one too. Eventually Emilee will expect to have one too, I can only assume…it’s a vicious cycle.
That’s a whole other topic though. For Zaden’s first party, I wanted to host it somewhere active. Anyone that’s met Zaden knows, that he’s always on the move. After googling, what seemed to be ages. We came across Injanation, the perfect place to host a bunch of high energy kids.
Injanation’s got everything from an obstacle course, to trampolines, a diving pit, a dodge-ball area, rock climbing, etc. Check out their website for more information https://www.injanation.com, the best part is parents can participate too!
I booked a room, that included 90 minutes of playtime, a pair of trampoline grip socks for all the kids and a bottle of water for everyone. I provided the decorations, food, and drinks.
Zaden’s birthday party theme was Batman, since he’s big into superheroes right now. Okay he’s been big into Superheroes for years now. I bought the Batman plates, cups, and napkins at the Dollarama. Then last-minute, bought the table-cloth at Superstore.Considering this was my first time hosting none family, I was happy I had low maintenance party guests. I bought assorted cookies, and assorted pop from Costco to serve. Then we bought a whole bunch of Little Caesars pizzas, with a variety of different toppings.
In the future, I’m thinking of doing a vegetable tray, maybe even a fruit tray. So that there’s something for everyone, not just the junk food lovers. I know that my kids love fruits, and vegetables so even just providing it for them it won’t go to waste.Ever since the kids were born, I buy them ice cream cakes for their birthday. Since I moved to Calgary, we’ve been going to the Dairy Queen not far from our house. The cakes are delicious, and everyone enjoys them. Almost every time they’ve given us super awesome designs, on our cakes.
This year new owners bought the place, and the decorator left with the previous owners. The new temporary cake decorator, isn’t very good. It bothered me a bit, but I let it slide mostly because there wasn’t enough time to fix it.
We brought the cake to Injanation, the staff said they could store it in the freezer till we wanted it. So once the kids had finished playing, and eating. I asked the staff to bring out the cake. Apparently there had been a miscommunication, and they put it in the fridge instead of the freezer.
The cake had been melting, in the fridge since we got there. Zaden didn’t seem to care, he loved his cake anyways. Which is all that matters to me, in the long run.Zaden had six kids come to his party, not including his siblings! Surprisingly three of them, were girls. 🙂 I had worried all for nothing.

Zaden got a Lego Dimensions starter pack, along with a ton of Lego Dimensions characters. A huge Lego box, to store all his Lego so it’s off the floor ha ha. One of his friends had bought him a micro drone, and my personal favourite gift he received was a Spider-Man bathing suit and towel.
It was a very successful birthday, and I’m glad that everything went so smooth. If you want to see Zaden’s birthday last year, CLICK HERE. What’s your favourite part of birthday parties?
