The kids had school this morning, so they got all dressed up in their costumes. Unfortunately the school has a no face paint policy, so Zaden had to wait until after school to get his face painted. The people who are in charge of days off at the kid’s school are smart, the students don’t have school tomorrow LOL. I don’t blame them for wanting the day off after Halloween, I know when I was younger we’d always bring a ton of candy to school the next day. Let’s not forget how cranky we’d be from being up later than usual from trick or treating. Click here to see what happened last Halloween. Last year I didn’t get to go trick or treating with Keera and Zaden, they went to their grandpa’s place for the night. It bummed me out, but Emilee just wasn’t ready for the outside house to house stuff. So when their grandpa offered to bring them, I figured why not they wouldn’t have to miss out. My mom and I took Emilee out to the mall to trick or treat, and I made a lame attempt at being She-Hulk. Which involved just a basic black shirt, some jeans, my jack and some green face paint.
I love when parents dress-up for Halloween, but I refuse to pay 50+ dollars for a costume for myself. Especially since it’s only for one night. That’s why this year I didn’t have any plans to dress-up, but this morning Zaden insisted that I dress up to go trick or treating. Stuck with only the morning to plan out a costume, and me being super cheap I decided to be Batman/Batgirl. Years ago the kids aunt made them some felt Superhero costumes, along with masks. I managed to find the Batman one, but I could find the mask for it. I figured I’d just wear the felt costume, and that would be good enough. However one thing lead to another and I painted a mask onto my face, after I painted Zaden’s face that is. Another last-minute costume that was mediocre, but all that mattered was my kids thought I looked good so that’s a win for me. This year Keera decided to be a Gothic Princess, Zaden decided he would be a Minion, and Emilee was a Princess/Mermaid Princess.
Keera got invited to go trick or treating with her friend, so she went over there after school. We ended up going out-of-town to Langdon for supper, then once we finished we went trick-or-treating there. The town is small enough that most neighbors hang out in front of their home in the driveway together, with a propane fire where they drink while they hand out candy. Most of the houses were decorated really nice, and some even went all out with haunted houses. This one house we ended up going to the guy had set up his front yard to look like a graveyard, he put Halloween masks on the tombstones and even had scary music playing.
Sometimes it’s stuff like that, that makes me miss small town living. I spent several years growing up around a small town, and I have a love/hate feeling for small towns. On one hand I love the fact that almost everyone knows who’s who, and their more cautious around strangers. Than another part of me doesn’t like everyone knowing everyone’s business. It’s like living anywhere, there’s always going to be pros and cons to each place.
After a couple of hours of trick or treating, which involved getting in the car in-between several houses just to warm up. (I can’t believe I actually did this when I was younger, without the car warm ups.) We were getting into the car yet again, except this time we were heading to go and pick up Keera…Oh yes and I slammed my finger in the car door. I had just finished tying up Emilee in her car-seat, and went to close the door when I caught my finger in the car door. It’s truly a skill I’m telling you, and all of this managed to happened just as a group of girls were passing by.
One of the girls: “Is that your real finger/hand, or is it a fake one?!”
Me: “Nope, it’s my real hand/finger.”
One of the girls: “You aren’t screaming… your acting really calm.”
Me: “Yeah adrenaline, or something.”
*Girls continue walking away as I get my finger out of the door.*
*Holding my finger, and jumping around swearing under my breath.*
It’s funny the things we do to play off like something didn’t hurt. Also part of me didn’t want to get in a swearing fit, while a bunch of young girls were watching. Once we picked up Keera she said they didn’t do much Trick or Treating. They ended up going out to trick or treat, then they came back because their legs hurt and they wanted to watch a movie. Lol only 7 years old and the whole going out to freeze for candy is already undesirable. The upside is she got to hang out with her friends, and they handed out candy to other Trick-or-treaters.Keera and Zaden went to their grandpa’s place for the night, and I just finished going through Emilee’s Halloween candy. It’s harder going through her candy, because I’ve got to check all of the candy to make sure it’s safe. Then once I’m done that I have to go through it again, to take out anything with nuts because of her allergy.
What did you and your kid(s) dress up as for Halloween?
