Lately I’ve been experimenting in the kitchen, I want to try eating and cooking different foods. I love spaghetti it’s great, and it’s always a crowd pleaser. I’m just looking for a change, you know something less routine. The kids aren’t big fans of me going crazy with new foods, I try to limit it to when they aren’t around. Until I get the hang of making it that is. 😉 Still I’m pretty sure that burgers are always a safe choice. When I was younger I was taught to mix beef, an egg, and Ritz crackers together to make homemade burgers. Apparently you can use onion soup mix too. With all that despite the fact that I’ve already had a turkey burger before, I’ve never actually made them from scratch at home…ever. Part of me thinks I could just do the crackers and egg with the ground turkey meat. I’m just trying to avoid eating a ton of crackers. So when I went to the store I bought a packet of “Super Burger” mix. Sure it’s from a packet, so it’s probably not that healthy but it did the trick. I mixed the Super Burger mix, with some onions and the lean ground turkey.
Once I finished up mixing it all together, I molded them into burger patties. I cooked them on my broil baking sheet, and I’ve got to say my first attempt was a complete win. The burgers were delicious, we didn’t have any hamburger buns so I substituted with bread. I toasted mine and the kids, decided they didn’t want theirs toasted. Usually when I put onion in the food I make, the kids end up picking the onions out. This time they didn’t complain, they ate every bite. I’m absolutely sure that’s a parent win, in my books anyway. I’m excited to make these again, except this time I’m going to try out different ways to stick them together so I don’t need to have a store-bought packet. 🙂
Have you ever made turkey burgers at home? What do you use to make them stick together?
