Yesterday we went to a mom’s trade show at a small recreation center here in Calgary. I love going to these things, because I get to check out a bunch of different businesses. It’s unreal how many different types of business are out there, there’s something out there for everyone. A couple of my favourite companies off the top of my head are: Tupperware, and Epicure… I love using Epicure when I cook. The kids were on their best behaviour, but as kids usually get they didn’t want to stop at table after table just to browse and get information. One of the parents noticed the kids were getting antsy, so she told us that there was someone doing free face painting. The lady doing the face painting had set up her face painting table right in the middle of the room and she also had a bunch of Lego there for the kids to play with. The kids were ecstatic to get their face’s painted, they were told to look in her photo binder for face photo samples. Keera decided on getting a unicorn painted instead of her usual butterfly, and Zaden wanted to be a cyborg instead of a superhero. He said that he needed to “change things up”. She painted Zaden’s face first, and then she did Keera’s face. Afterwards the lady doing the face painting and I, discussed how she thought Emilee wouldn’t sit long enough to get any of the designs done. I told her she didn’t have to do anything extravagant, she could just do something simple. I don’t really think Emilee cared what she got painted on her face, as long as she got her face painted like her siblings. Once they got their faces painted, they wanted to play with the Lego. This gave me the perfect window of opportunity, to buy a couple of things from the couple at the Epicure table.
Then today we finally did the kids Easter egg hunt, which was LONG overdue. I know I feel bad that I waited so long, but the reason why we didn’t do it until today was because we’ve been so busy packing. Then we were moving, and then of course the two oldest went and spent some time at their grandpa’s house. I’ve been so stressed with packing stuff up, it’s just been my mom and I in between our work schedules and the kids. So I told the kids that the Easter bunny would be delivering the Easter stuff late this year, just in time for us to move into our new apartment. It didn’t bother them that we were doing Easter later than usual, because they were busy out at the farm on the weekend anyway. They would rather we go to the park instead of hanging out collecting candy, even though I know they were still excited about searching for the candy. My kids are strange but wonderful, they choose vegetables over chocolate!
I don’t like that people base this holiday around chocolate and gifts, don’t people think about the true meaning of Easter? I don’t want to dig too deep into that because everyone is allowed their own beliefs, I just get so sick and tired of all these darn “holidays” that people put the focus around materialistic things.
It’s a tradition in our house that for every holiday we make a big meal, it’s usually a turkey dinner with potatoes, stuffing, vegetables, and gravy. With everything going on with the move this year most of the cooking stuff was packed up, and I just didn’t think we should in the old place.. not to mention our lack of energy. I was planning on doing it when we first moved into our new place, but life got in the way and the moment passed. The kids were satisfied and so distracted by the Easter egg hunt, because the bunny left them each their own colour coordinated eggs. So they didn’t even notice, that the Easter bunny left them less stuff this year compared to last. 😛
What did your family do for Easter? Do you go all out with chocolate or do you celebrate in other ways?
