Two-ish weeks ago Keera brought home a paper from school, it stated that she had to complete a project/presentation. She had the choice of making a power-point presentation, or a video, or even a poster board. She would have to present the one that she decided on to her class and do a 4 minute speech explaining it. On top of that she had to bring in a food to share with her class that represented her heritage (the food she would be doing her presentation on.) I skim read the paper paying attention to the details, but the inner procrastinator in me won after I noticed the due date was two weeks away. I placed the paper on the counter, everyone’s got that one spot in their house and if you say you don’t you are likely a liar. It’s the spot you put “important” things that you don’t want to forget, but you end up forgetting about putting it there. So there the paper sat on our counter, not being moved. Then 9 days ago by some dumb luck we ended up going to the Micheals craft store, once we got into the store I remembered to buy a poster board for Keera’s project.
Still when we got home the poster board got placed on top of the freezer. I know the parent in me should have said we would start on the project the next day, but I always had other things to do…honestly other things that could have waited. So I was cleaning off the counter this morning, sorting through the papers that had been sitting there when I came across her project sheet. Surprise procrastinator/lazy mom the project/presentation and food is due tomorrow! I quickly thought of what she could do for her poster, checking inside the cupboards and fridge for the ingredients for Crepes. Keera told me she wanted to put pictures of us making the Crepes on her poster, so I said that would be fine we’d start her poster/the crepes after supper. After all we had the poster, I had my phone/a camera, we’ve got a printer, and we had all the ingredients it should have been a breeze. After we had supper I quickly cleaned up the kitchen from our supper mess, and we got started on the Crepes. I got Keera to help me pour the ingredients in the bowl, and she even helped mix a bit. I then started cooking the crepes while I got her to start on her poster board. Just as I went to print the pictures in colour, our printer decided it didn’t want to print anything in colour. So her explosively colorful poster that I had pictured in my mind was now going to be in black and white. The poster being in black and white gives it a cool look, but we were both still disappointed it couldn’t be in colour. My mom managed to find a family picture that had my great great grand-parents in it who are from France, so we put that on her poster too. I think that Keera did a really good job considering that, we did this all the night before it was due. Yet another parenting lesson for the vault..
