I’m not a big fan of giving parenting advice, most of the time anyway but I will share this…It’s a bad idea to book an eye appointment for two of your kids, plus yourself in one trip. If you are looking for something more insane to do, doing exactly like that but tagging along all three of your kids. We were rushing to make it to the eye doctor in time for my appointment, I was scheduled to go first. Once we got there and they realized I was with the other kid appointments, they said they wanted to do the kids first. After a quick decision I decided Zaden would go up first, the first thing they do is they make you sit in a chair; and look at a red(?) balloon in the machine with your eye then you switch eyes. You are supposed to sit still and not blink, which is an almost impossible task for my 4-year-old. Zaden is known for not being able to sit still, especially for long periods of time I’m positive that it’s a 4-year old thing. Next they are supposed to make you sit and look at a red dot, once on the right eye then another on the left then a little puff of air goes into your eye. They decided to skip this step with Zaden, because the first step was hard enough to do. After that they pull out a little booklet, and ask you to cover one of your eyes while you read out loud the different coloured numbers that you see appear on the pages. Then you do the same thing with your other eye covered, after all of that you finally get in to see the optometrist him or herself lol. She asked Zaden to cover one eye and read out the letters, then repeat with his other eye covered. After that she puts her big machine of lens in front of him asking him which ones are better for him to see with. It turns out that Zaden’s vision has improved since last year, and all he needs his new glasses for is up close stuff {reading, playing on an Ipad, etc}.They did all the same tests with Keera, only they did the air puff test on her because she’s much more able to sit still. I wasn’t able to go into the actual room with her, because they wanted to start on my eye tests. It turns out that even though Keera’s been wearing her glasses all the time religiously she still has a worse prescription. It doesn’t surprise me, she probably got those genes from me. My mom was able to watch Emilee, Zaden, and Keera while I got my eyes checked in the room. She distracted them with colouring books, and once everyone had their eyes checked minus Emilee {I really want to take her while her siblings are in school}, we picked out some new glasses for Keera and Zaden. For Keera we picked the ones above because it had some nice brown on the inside of the frame, and there’s some blue on the bottom of the outside of the frame the blue really makes her blue eyes “pop”. I was nervous ordering Zaden’s glasses because the ones he tried on were not the ones we were ordering. He tried on a pair and we liked them, but because he accidentally broke his previous pair we wanted a more durable kind. The receptionist suggest these durable glasses that are bendable, I liked the idea but I didn’t like the look. She assured me that we would be able to get the frame I liked in that same material, and the same colour. They would be just as stylish as the less than durable pair, so we took a leap of faith and put the order in. I didn’t really look around for glasses for myself, I’ll be waiting to get my new glasses later on once everything gets sorted out.
Have you brought your child/children to the eye doctor? What’s something stressful you do with your kid(s), that needs to be done?
