Tonight my work was having a Christmas party for the staff’s kids, age 0-12 years old. I was told that the party would start at 6pm and go till 8pm, that they would provide snacks, a magic show and even a free picture with Santa. According to my supervisor the company has three Christmas parties ever year, one for the kids and the other two are for the staff {day and night shift get different parties}.This is the first time I’ve every been to a work party just for the staff’s kids, and in two weeks we’ll be having our staff party that will be a first for me since I was fourteen years old. I have to work tonight so I wasn’t sure what to expect, we got there for 6pm and the kids got their snacks some cookies, chips and a juice box. The adults were told to sit on the chairs, and the kids were to sit on the floor, it was about 6:40pm when everyone had settled down; and the magician that I know too well was starting his warm up routine. He told the kids that at the end of the magic show everyone would get to meet Santa. We sat through the magic show and the kids seemed to have a great time laughing, they even volunteered to be part of the show. Watching them participate is something I don’t often get to see, because they usually shy away but this time they were completely involved. They had to help as a team wrap up someone in toilet paper to make them look like a snow man, then stick a “carrot” on the person’s nose and three “black buttons” on them. Keera’s team was against Zaden’s team and I don’t even remember who won and they don’t either it was just the fact they had fun. At around 7:40pm Santa came upstairs to say hello and we were told that we would be lining up downstairs to see him. Everyone would be getting a toy from Santa, and we would get a free professional picture.
The kids and I headed downstairs, and waited in line 10 minutes later it was our turn to see Santa. A quick hello and Emilee refused to go near him, so I decided to pose with the kids making this our first official professional picture as a family… too bad Santa was there LOL. The kids each got a chocolate calendar and some bubble bath. Keera got a little frozen etch sketch, Zaden got a toy truck and Emilee got fake car keys that make sounds. All in all it was a pretty awesome night, we all got out and got to do something fun. The most important thing to me is that the kids had a good time, afterwards we headed to eat and then rushed home to get the kids in their pajamas and off to bed.
Does your work have a Christmas party for kids? If you stay at home, what do you do for fun to prepare for Christmas?
