One more sleep until Christmas! Is everyone as excited as my kids?
As some of you might know I’ve been trying to start new traditions with my kids, special things that our family will do together. Now I know that a lot of people do most of these, but still my list is ever-growing thanks to the help of the internet giving me ideas. So last year when I seen this post floating around Facebook or maybe it was Pinterest, I decided to give it a try. It’s called a Christmas Eve Box. In the one I seen the parent had put some pjs, a movie, an individual packet of hot chocolate, and a bag of popcorn. The idea is to give it to the child so that they have something to open the day before Christmas, in case that wasn’t obvious enough. 😛 I decided I was going to get each the kids different boxes, but the same size from the Dollarama; then I would fill them up with the exact same things. It was a total hit, the kids loved the idea of opening something before Christmas Day.This year I got thinking of course I want to continue this new tradition I started with the kids, but I don’t like the idea of limiting myself to just those items. Another big thing is I don’t like buying the kids things that they won’t use, I don’t like waste or trinkets. Plus we’ve already got tons of individual hot chocolate packets and popcorn bags in the cupboard. So instead I branched out, and this year I got four small clear plastic containers. They aren’t anything fancy, I bought them on sale in a pack of 4 at Superstore. I just had to make sure they were all identical to avoid a fight, part of parenting is learning from your mistakes. The boxes I bought last year were cute, I specifically picked out each individual design for each of the kids. They fought over whose box was whose, and the boxes were broken shortly after they had opened them. So this year I got sturdy containers and I changed up what I put inside. Keera got a red loofah(sp?), a pair of pajamas, and the movie Maleficent which counts as something she put on her Christmas list. Zaden got a green loofah, a pair of pajamas and an extremely difficult to track down Lego movie. Emilee got a loofah, a pair of pajamas, and the Minions movie, because she adores the little yellow minions. They all got stuff I know their going to use, and something they all wanted that they can enjoy. 🙂
Does your family do a Christmas eve box/container? Do you have any other night before Christmas traditions?
