We went to Toys R Us less than a week ago on Emilee’s birthday. When we got to the check out to pay the cashier gave us a Crayola Wish list kit for Emilee, I asked if we could have a couple more since Keera and Zaden weren’t with us. So tonight after supper I figured it was time, and I took them out and gave them to the kids. I waited this long to give them to the kids because, I didn’t want them writing out their lists too early. I already feel like every year there’s this huge pressure put on everyone to start shopping early for Christmas, even before Halloween or Remembrance Day comes a long.
The wish list kit comes in a small white box that has different coloured polka-dots on it, and a ribbon to make it look like a wrapped up present. When you open up the box inside there is a little colouring Santa booklet similar to a small colouring book, a picture to colour, some Christmas themed stickers, three crayons {red, blue and yellow}; and a dear Santa letter with an envelope so you can write and mail in your list to Santa. I really thought that the kids knew what they wanted, and that they would be able to write it down quickly {with help}. However it turns out that they really didn’t know what they wanted for Christmas. It took them over an hour and me suggesting ideas to them for them to make up a short list. Surprisingly Keera was the last one to finish her list, and it felt like I was pulling teeth to even get that. I know everyone says their kids aren’t like your average child, but that statement is true with mine. My kids rarely ask for much, of course they do get excited during the holidays when they see kids playing with toys on the TV or even seeing toys in the store. But they prefer to go and do stuff vs getting a ton of toys. They enjoy things like going bowling, going out for ice cream, going to the park or to the field to play, going to the zoo; even going to the Science centre, etc. I’m so incredibly blessed to have them.Zaden’s Christmas list revolved mostly around Superheros, and a mention about Legos…I’m not really surprised there he’s been obsessed with Superheros all year. Keera’s list doesn’t surprise me either, the first thing she wrote down was an Elsa doll; the same thing she asked for last year. Also the only reason she mentioned an Ipad was because she seen me using mine. Emilee’s list is your typical two-year old’s wish list, and she mentioned a movie but not what kind. That’s okay mom’s got it under control I know exactly what movie she would go nuts over 😉
I had this big plan for Christmas this year, but unfortunately things didn’t go as planned. I do however already know what I’ll be buying the kids next year for Christmas, and what we will be doing. I’ve already made steps towards that goal of mine, and I’m so excited!
Do you get your child(ren) to write a letter to Santa? What other Christmas traditions does your family have?
