Our journey started on the 2nd we left Calgary around 6 PM ish (I think). We drove to Medicine Hat and once we got there we had a late supper, at the same A&W restaurant that we stopped at for supper three years ago haha. After supper and bathroom trips we all piled up back in the van and we drove straight through to Manitoba, the only time we stopped was for gas or a quick 15 minute nap. Our A/C in the van doesn’t work, so we spent most of the trip with the van windows rolled down and it was HOT.
Once we got to Manitoba (it was the 3rd) our first stop was D.Q in Portage La Prairie, the kids and I were so happy to be out of the vehicle for a bit. The promise of food and ice cream was definitely a bonus, we had some lunch and then we headed to Winnipeg to my aunt and uncles house. The kids enjoyed running around and playing for a bit; we all just kind of did our own thing. I was so happy to be out of vehicle for longer then 20 minutes and I’m sure the kids were too. Em and Z played with some chalk, then Em followed around their dog for a while (apparently she’s crazy about dogs, which is a very good thing!) K was just doing her own thing, she’s really good like that. The next day (the 4th) was my grandma’s surprise birthday celebration event. All the kids played in a mini kiddie pool with a sprinkler mat type thing, and they also played with a bubble making hippo machine. It was good we had lots of fun, food and laughs. We managed to fit a family photo in before a big rain storm came, and then we just moved into the garage and hung out in there. It was nice hanging out with family that I haven’t seen in about three years, the only person that missed it was my sister. 🙁On Sunday the kids and I went out-of-town to spend some time with the kids grandpa, aunt and uncle. This was the first time that Em has ever seen them in person, and she spent most of the time playing shy but making smiles to them from afar. Pretty good considering she’s been a very shy little girl lately. The kids all coloured some pictures, then played with some Lego. K and Z decided to brave the swimming pool with Aunty Nikki, even though it felt very cold! K spent more time in the pool then Z, after a little bit he was ready to get out and just dry off. After some chicken and fries for supper, K and Z went over to Aunty Nikki and Uncle Brendon’s house to spend the night. Meanwhile Em and I stayed with their grandpa. The next day we went to the grocery store to pick up some things for supper, then grabbed a slurpee. For supper we had something that Nikki made that was like pizza in a crock-pot. After supper K, and Z went to spend another night at their aunt and uncles house. The next day we headed back to Winnipeg, said goodbye and headed to my grandparents place in Portage. We had supper and visited for a bit with my grandparents (my mom’s side), and then we went to my other grandparents house to visit(my dad’s side). The kids were having so much fun and it was getting late so we decided to spend the night. I haven’t slept over in my grandparents house in a while, and it was very homey. My grandma and I stayed up really late talking, which was SO nice. The next day we just hung around for a bit while the kids played outside in the yard, then later on my grandpa brought K and Z to the park to play for a bit. I did some laundry and packed up the kids bags.A couple of weeks ago K came home from school ecstatic, she had her first loose tooth! She wiggled and wiggled that tooth every single day, and she was afraid to eat in case that the tooth would come out. After about a week she stopped obsessing about wiggling her tooth, and we just forgot about it. Today she told my grandma that her tooth was wiggly and that it felt odd. FINALLY K has lost her very first tooth!! Super excited, but tonight after we head to Brandon to visit my aunt, uncle and cousins we will be heading home. The tooth fairy will have to wait until we get back to make her presence!
Have you done anything fun so far this summer? Are you planning a family vacation?
